Cork, IR:
Cobh, located in County Cork, was the Titanic's final port of call before crossing the Atlantic. On April 11, 1912, the ship anchored in Cork Harbour and took aboard 123 passengers, many of whom were Irish emigrants heading to a new life in America. The historic town offers the Titanic Experience Cobh, which details the stories of these final passengers and provides a poignant memorial to the last European soil touched by the great ship.
Liverpool, UK: The Official Home
Although the Titanic never docked there, Liverpool holds profound historical significance as the official port of registry for the White Star Line. The words "Titanic, Liverpool" were painted on the stern of the ship, linking it directly to the city’s historic waterfront and maritime tradition. The original headquarters of the White Star Line, the iconic 30 James Street building, still stands on the waterfront, and the Merseyside Maritime Museum houses extensive archives and artifacts related to the tragedy.
Belfast, UK: The Birth Place
Belfast is the birthplace of the Titanic, where it was designed, built, and launched at the Harland & Wolff shipyards. The city's industrial prowess and shipbuilding heritage are inseparable from the Titanic story. The process, from laying the keel in 1909 to the ship's sea trials, is now commemorated in the magnificent Titanic Belfast museum, a star-shaped building that occupies the slipways where the great liner was constructed, celebrating the skill and ambition of the city's workers.
Southampton, UK: The Starting Point
Southampton was the starting point and primary departure port for the Titanic's maiden voyage on April 10, 1912. The city was deeply connected to the White Star Line, and a large portion of the ship's crew—from firemen to stewards—were local residents. Consequently, Southampton suffered the most catastrophic loss of life from any single community, with hundreds of families losing a loved one. Today, the city honors this legacy at the SeaCity Museum and several memorials, reflecting its status as the ship's ancestral home
The Cunard Line still makes transatlantic journeys from Southampton and we will be joining the April or May sailings
Halifax, Canada: The Recovery Effort
Halifax became tragically central to the Titanic story after the sinking, serving as the base for the cable ships sent to recover victims from the disaster site. Due to its proximity and deep-sea recovery capabilities, the city received many of the bodies recovered from the North Atlantic. Today, over 150 Titanic victims are buried across three cemeteries in Halifax, primarily the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, where their simple headstones create one of the most solemn and tangible memorials to the tragedy.
New York, USA: The Rescue Effort
New York was the Titanic's intended destination and the site of the disaster's dramatic aftermath. It was here, at Pier 59 on the Hudson River, that survivors were brought ashore by the RMS Carpathia. The city served as the nerve center for rescue efforts, inquiries, and media coverage, and the financial and cultural impact of the loss was immediately felt. The city's connection is remembered through various memorials and the prominent role New York families played in the passenger list
